Repair or Replace Your Garage Door?

This is one of the most common questions we get on a service call, and the honest answer depends on a few specific factors — not just the door's age. Here's how we actually make the call.
When Repair Makes Sense
If the door's structure and panels are in good shape and the problem is a spring, cable, opener, roller, or hinge, repair is almost always the right call — these are wear parts, and replacing them restores the door to full working condition for a fraction of a new door's cost.
When Replacement Makes More Sense
- Multiple damaged or warped panels
- The door is more than 20–25 years old with repeated recent repairs
- You want a wind-rated door and the current one predates Florida's current code
- The insulation and energy efficiency no longer meet your needs
- You're changing the look of the home and want a different style
The Middle Ground
Sometimes only part of a door needs replacing — a single damaged panel section can often be swapped without replacing the whole door, provided the manufacturer still makes a matching panel. This is worth asking about before assuming a full replacement is necessary.
What We Recommend
We inspect the door and give you a straight answer, including the cost of each option, rather than defaulting to whichever is more profitable for us. In the large majority of service calls, a repair is the right and more affordable choice — full replacement is usually only the right call when the door's structure itself, not just its hardware, is the problem.
